The Kokomo Fire Department The fire department of Kokomo, Ind., which has an estimated population of 35,000, is commanded by Chief Ed. S. Shauman, and has a force of seventeen men, all paid. The department was started twenty-five years ago with one company of five men. Now there are three stations, the central station, one in the north end, one in the south end of town. The central station is equipped with a Boyd city service ladder truck, an Ahrens-Fox pump and hose wagon and a chief’s car, which are shown in the illustration herewith. At the two other houses are hose companies with horse-drawn wagons, but No. 2 Company will have a motor triple combination pumping engine of Ahrens-Fox make, by January 1st, and it is expected that No. 3 Company will be equipped with a motor combination wagon next year.
