COMMISSIONER ADAMSON’S REQUEST FOR COMPLETE MOTORIZATION. The request made by Fire Commissioner Robert Adamson, of New York City, to the Board of Estimate for over $1,000,000 for the purchase of motor equipment is of special and particular interest and importance, not so much because of the sum of money involved as that it means the complete motorization of the department of this great city, which the Commissioner recommends on the excellent grounds of increased efficiency and economy. In an interview, printed on another page, Commissioner Adamson presents an array of facts and figures that are of great interest as affording a valuable presentation of the benefits of motorization. In brief, motorization, the Commissioner declares, will increase efficiency,, render unnecessary the establishment of new companies that would be needed otherwise and in addition, result in an annual saving of $150,000 in reduced cost of operation of motor apparatus.
