RECOGNITION OF CHIEF BOYD. A very fitting recogntion of the efficiency and excellence of the services rendered the city by Chief Sam B. Boyd and the Knoxville, Tenn., fire department was recently given in an advertisement in a Knoxville newspaper by the Union National Bank of that city. It illustrates that the realization of the perils and responsibilities of a chief of a fire department is becoming more general among those who are not intimately connected with fire department work, but who arc vitally concerned in all that pertains to the welfare of a community. It is seldom that a bank prints an advertisement which is, at first glance, so foreign to its business, but a little thought shows that a community that is ably safeguarded against loss of life and property by fire is to the advantage of business in general and consequently to that of a banking institution.…
