Two Platoons in Minneapolis Chief Charles W. Ringin, of Minneapolis, Minn., recently stated to the fire committee of the city council that since the legislature has ordered the two platoon system in the fire department the department will be $138,000 in debt by December 31, 1917, unless immediate steps are taken to provide additional funds. After October 1 the fire department will be without funds to pay the firemen, he said. With the present force of firemen the department will be $46,000 in debt at the end of the present year. To this sum will be added $92,000 necessary to pay the new firemen, ordered by the city council. The department has $624,000 for use in 1917 and this will be $138,000 short.
