Fire Prevention in Syracuse Hearty and earnest co-operation on the part of the merchants of the city with the Department of Public Safety of Syracuse, N. Y., in its efforts to reduce fire hazards in that city is being found by Inspector Patrick O’Hara, who recently has been making calls in the downtown section and suggesting points to lessen fire danger. The action of the Department of Public Safety is being taken following fires in places where heavy damage might have resulted had the blazes not been discovered in time, in particular the fires at the American Express Company and the Hippodrome Theater. One recent fire is believed to have been caused by the dropping of a cigarette stub through a hole in the sidewalk, setting fire to papers in the cellar.
