To the Editor: Will you kindly do the following problems for me and show work in detail? 400 feet of 2 1/2-inch hose is laid from an engine and up a 50-foot ladder. Nozzle is 1 1/8 inches and shows 46 pounds pressure. What pressure should the engine show? Two 2 1/2-inch lines of hose are laid from engine to deck gun. One line is 200 feet, and the other is 250 feet. The engine shows 150 pounds, and 1 1/2-inch nozzle is being used. How do you figure the friction on the two lines? Two lines enter a deck gun at 75 pounds pressure and two other lines enter at 60 pounds. Do the higher pressure lines make it impossible for the lower pressure ones to become part of the stream.
