FIRE DEPARTMENT DOINGS Galva, Ill., has a new city hall and fire station. At a recent fire at Colusa, Cal., Chief C. W. Young was severely burned. The August fire loss in the State of Minnesota was $60,837 more than that for August, 1916. Beloit, Wis., plans to enlarge its fire departments. Motor pumping apparatus is proposed. Firemen of Covington, O., have been granted a wage increase of $10 a month to take effect January 1. The Louisiana State Firemen’s Association holds its annual convention in Plaquemine, October 11, 13 and 13. The city of Sherman, Tex., has now four pieces of motor apparatus, three trucks having been recently received. Reports state that the business section of Lawton, Okla., has been destroyed. The estimated loss is placed at $135,000. The plant of the Northern Iron Co., Standish, N. Y., was recently damaged to the extent of about fifty thousand dollars.…
