THE NEW YEAR. By the time this issue reaches our readers another year will have passed into the yesterday of time and we will have embarked on a new one. The encouragements and discouragements of 1917 will have become a memory only. We are at present passing through an uncertain time, with the future shrouded in the darkness of the world conflict that is upon us and the rest of the civilized world. And yet there is much that we can look forward to with optimism. The resources of our country, taxed as they are, still present almost limitless means to supply all the demands that can be made upon them. And above and beyond this there is that spirit in our people which always has and always will rise superior to any adversity that may befall them.
