Carmody has been appointed fire commissioner at Holyoke, Mass., to succeed J. H. O’Connell. Thomas C. Rrackcn, Lawrence E. Rcif and Col. George D. Post have been appointed fire commissioners at New Haven, Conn. Jeremiah Foster has been re-elected water commissioner at Gloucester, Mass., by an unanimous vote of the municipal council. Chief Pomphret, of Chicapee, in his annual report states that several bridges in the town are unsafe for the passage of fire apparatus. The Whittaker & Bacon mill at Chapinville, a short distance from Northboro, Mass., was destroyed by fire on January 28 with a very heavy loss.
