WATER RATES Lower water rates for consumers in third and fourth-floor apartments, Chicago, Ill., are predicted in the report of the water bureau. A readjustment of the rates of the Van Nuys water system in and about San Gabriel, Cal., has been ordered by the Railroad Commission. The City Council of Pana, Ill., unanimously adopted a motion that the water rate to industrial consumers, which is 20 cents per 1,000 cubic feet, where more than 300,000 feet is used, be doubled and an ordinance will be prepared and introduced at the next meeting. The South Pittsburgh Water Company and Whitaker Water Company, operating in Pittsburgh, Pa., and surrounding territory, recently filed with the Public Service Commission, a new schedule of rates which provides for an increase in the meter rate to consumers using more than 500,000 gallons per month, the new rate to be effective on March 12th.
