Firemen Suffer at Fire in Below Zero Weather at Ottawa One of the most bitter fights that was ever fought against fire in Ottawa, Ont., Canada, occurred recently when box No. 43 was pulled for a fire which had broken out in the basement of the store occupied by Serre Grenier & Co., 93-94 Rideau street, dealers in stationary and statuary, etc., and which spread to the store on the west occupied by S. & H. Borbridge & Co., and on the east to an unoccupied store, and before under control damage to the extent of over $175,000 had been done. The fire was discovered by Police Constable Tighe, who was patrolling Rideau street about 5.40 a. m., when, on passing, he smelled smoke, and, on lying flat on the sidewalk, he could see the basement was a mass of flames, he at once ran and pulled box No. 43,…
