NEW ENGLAND NOTES. Specially reported for FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING, by H. Belknap, Boston, Mass. North Attleboro, Mass., has appropriated the sum of $17,500 for fire department expenses. Twelve additional firemen were provisionally appointed to the Boston department on March 5. The Woonsocket, R. I., Firemen’s Relief Association has received a bequest of $1,000 by the will of James H. Singleton, of Burrilville. Complaints of the dark coloring and swampy taste of the city water at Pawtucket, R. I., have been made by many residents of that place. Deputy Chief James F. Smith has received the appointment of chief of department at Nashua, N. H., succeeding Chief Charles H. Whitney, deceased. Capt. Edward C. Waterhouse, of Hose Company 4, of the Newton fire department, fell from the roof of a house and severely injured his back at a recent fire. James A.
