RECENT BIG FIRES (Specially Reported for FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING.) The following are among the important recent fires occurring in various sections of the country which have been specially reported to FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING: New York Fire Destroys Building A fire which occurred in West Thirtysixth street, recently, destroyed the building, with its contents, in spite of the efforts of the department. The heavy smoke which the goods stored on the various floors threw off caused four firemen to be overcome, and they were taken to the hospital in an unconscious condition. The fire was discovered late in the afternoon, and had, owing to inflammable conditions, gained great headway when the alarm was turned in. The illustration shows the department at work at the height of the fire.
