Annual Report of the Water Department of Springfield The annual report of the Springfield, Mass., water department is an exhaustive one and shows the water conditions of the city to be in very good condition. Superintendent’s Report. According to the report of Alfred E. Martin, superintendent of the water works, the amount of pipe laid, the number of gates and fire hydrants set, the amount of pipe discontinued, and the number of gates and fire hydrants taken out in 1917 are as follows: Total pipe added, 25,486 feet; total gates added, 240; total fire hydrants added, 81. There are now in use 226.92+ miles of supply and distribution mains, a net addition of 3.91— miles the past season. There have been laid 17,643 feet of main pipe at a cost of $27,948.52, including ordinary extension with gates and connections. The removal of the 30-inch main from the Fiberloid Company’s yard…
