RECENT IMPORTANT FIRES (Specially Reported for FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING.) The following are among the important recent fires occurring in various sections of the country which have been specially reported to FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING: Great Cotton Fire Causes a Loss of $700,000 at Greenwood A fire which threatened for a time to wipe out the town of Greenwood, Miss., and which resulted in a loss of $700,000, occurred recently in the Tallahatchie Compress and Storage Company’s big “river shed,” 150×350 feet in area. The company’s property’ consists of three 350-foot sheds, forming three sides of a hollow square and surrounding the huge compress, 300×350 feet in area, and separated by a space of 100 feet from each of the sheds. The brick wall of the compress facing the burning shed was largely instrumental in saving it from destruction. The fire was discovered by the watchman at 7:05 p. m.…
