Water Plant Burned in Pierre

Issue 1 and Volume 64.

Water Plant Burned in Pierre The municipal light and water plant at Pierre, S. Dak., was destroyed by fire recently, the cause probably being a short circuit. The reservoir was full of water and it was expected that enough of the water plant machinery was left to get into action within a few days and avert a serious situation. The fire started at the switchboard and ignited nearby oil so quickly that the siren whistle near it could not be reached and the fire spread before aid could be summoned. The Capitol has its own lighting plant, but is dependent upon the city for water, and it cannot assist the city with light, having a different kind of current. The city council of Elyria, O., has been considering the matter of increased water rates.
