FIRE NOTES FROM CLEVELAND From a Regular Correspondent. Cleveland, O., firemen are planning to bring suit against the city to recover about $1,000,000 claimed as back pay for overtime under the 8-hour provision of the city charter. Mayor Davis of Cleveland has promised that the members of the department shall receive an increase of 7½ per cent on January 1 and that the raise shall be 10 per cent if a $2,000,000 deficiency bond issue is approved this fall. The 7 1/2 per cent increase would bring the total increase in pay in the past year and a half to 22 1/2 per cent. The Athletic Club Building was damaged by fire last week, starting in a furrier’s shop in the building and threatening the Elks’ Club across a narrow alley.
