RECENT IMPORTANT FIRES (Specially Reported for FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING.) The following are among the important recent fires occurring in various sections of the country which have been specially reported to FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING: Twenty Families Homeless by Fires in Dobbs Ferry The fire department of Dobbs Ferry, N. Y., was called upon to handle a fire of considerable proportions, on August 30, when the blaze originating in a shoe store spread to five adjoining structures, on Main street, and practically destroyed them, rendering 20 families homeless. The firemen, under command of Chief Meyers, were quickly on the scene, but the fire had gained great headway, and help was at once telephoned for to nearby towns. Tarrytown, Ardsley and Irvington departments responded with men and apparatus, the Tarrytown company, farthest from the scene of the fire, making Dobbs Ferry in less than fifteen minutes.
