OBITUARY Ex-Chief William M. Baker. William Millard Baker, 62 years old, ex-chief and a member of the South Bend, Ind., fire department for the past 25 years, died at his home Monday morning following a two-months’ illness of complications. Mr. Baker served the fire department as chief from 1894 until 1898, and was acting as lieutenant of number 7 hose company until he was forced to retire because of his ill health. Mr. Baker was born in Warsaw, Ind.. March 15, 1856, and had lived in South Bend for the past 43 years. Mrs. Ella Y. Ashton, wife of former Fire Commissioner John D. Ashton of Yonkers, N, Y., died of pneumonia recently in a private sanitarium in Yonkers. A few hours later her son, William Bright Ashton, died of pneumonia in the Brooklyn Navy Hospital. The son, who was 23 years old, enlisted in the Naval Reserve last August…
