FIRE PREVENTION DAY. Before another issue of FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING reaches its readers, Fire Prevention Day, to be universally observed throughout the country on November 2, will be a thing of the past for this year, and the benefits derived from its lessons will be felt by all classes, especially by those directly interested in fire protection from all standpoints. The origin of the conception of a special day set apart for the purpose of driving home the teachings of fire prevention, and for a general clean-up of hazardous conditions that would in any way tend to increase the fire peril, may be given to the state of Illinois, which, in 1911, set apart October 6 of that year as the first Fire Prevention Day, that date being the anniversary of the great Chicago fire of 1871.
