METERAGE The committee on water works, Canton, O., city council, has recommended the adoption, of a meter system for the entire city and the finance committee has been requested to appropriate a sufficient sum for that purpose. The monthly report of the receiver of taxes in Philadelphia, Pa., shows a decided diminution, in the quantity of water used, the decrease being due to the installation of meters. The rater rents collected , for the month of October amounted to, $89,897.63. In connection with the water shortage in Newport, R. I., the advocates of meterage in that city have resumed their efforts to have the system introduced. It is claimed by them that the present scarcity would not have occurred had the meterage system been in use, although the Newport water works were not constructed to provide supply for the present population.
