NOTES FROM CLEVELAND (From Our Regular Correspondent) Several false alarms from Box 317 recently finally resulted in a serious accident. While the fire apparatus blocked the street in front of the box, an automobile driven at high speed struck a fireman on Truck 8, so seriously injuring him that he was removed to the hospital. The owner of the car was arrested, charged with reckless driving and exceeding the speed limit. Should the outcome of the fireman’s injuries prove fatal, this man will be charged with manslaughter. This accident was the result of some mischievous person pulling the box. In this connection it cannot be impressed too forcibly on the minds of various law-making bodies that the fire department should be given right-of-way—that vehicles, including street cars, must come to a full stop while apparatus is passing and proceed cautiously afterward, with a sharp lookout for following apparatus.
