WATER RATES Plankinton, S. D., has increased the minimum water rate from $5 to $7.50 and the amount of water allowable at that rate is reduced from 10,000 to 5,000 gallons. Superintendent O’Shaughnessy, of the Columbus, Ohio, water works stated in his annual report that Columbus will not raise its rates in 1919, although nearly every city in the United States has found it necessary to raise them. Water rental increases, effective April 1, which will add. approximately $60,000 annually to the city’s revenue, have been announced by Water Works Superintendent Louis Ohlinger, of Canton, Ohio. This advance applies chiefly to meter rentals. Canton in 1919 will realize approximately $300,000 from water rentals, revenue from which during the twelve months of 1918 totaled $238,234.10.
