The Buyers’ Guide and Index Conditions which obtain to a greater extent in the fields served by FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING than in many others, have always made it a more or less difficult matter to obtain much desired information. Take the case of the numerous towns and cities that are now coming into the market for fire apparatus, water works or sewerage equipment for the first time. They are more or less at a loss at to what equipment is to be had. There exists no source of general information in readily available form and in the past this has only been secured after considerable delay or at some expense. One of the chief reasons for this condition is due to the fact that many manufacturers devote only a part of their efforts to supplying this field.
