RECENT IMPORTANT FIRES As Specially Reported to this Journal from all Sections of the Country—Apparently Substantial Building in Albany, Ga., Crumbles Quickly Under Flames— Lumber Fire in Lancaster, Pa.—Other Fires Fire Crumbles Walls of Pretentious Building The most disastrous fire in the history of Albany, Ga., recently destroyed the Davis-Exchange Bank Building. the Exchange Bank of Albany, Church well’s department store, Carter’s department store, the Watt-Sapp Hardware store and Myer Rosenberg’s grocery store. The Davis – Exchange Bank building was the largest structure in the business district of the city and furnished offices for more professional and business men and women than any building in the city. Not a remnant of this pretentious old four-story building remains, except piles of smoking debris.
