Cleveland Fire Notes (From our Regular Correspondent) Cleveland firemen will make a demand for $2.000 a year salary, to be effective next January 1. when the council budget committee meets in September, union officers declared recently. The present maximum salary of firemen is $1,560 a year. Members of the union, according to officers, are demanding the new raise following the victory of the firemen at Chicago who asked for $2,000 and finally secured a raise to $1,800, and also at Akron, where the maximum has been placed at $1,800 after four years’ service. Cleveland firemen secured a 10 per cent increase last January after a battle lasting nearly a year Two firemen were burned about the face and arms in a fire of undeterminfed origin which partly destroyed the plant of the Western Reserve Chemical works, ,3434 East Ninety-third Street, at 5:27 p.m„ July 4.
