Water Consumption in New York City A recent news item asserted that the consumption of water in New York City had during the past year increased to a great extent, much more so in proportion than in any previous year in the city’s history. Of course there are many conditions governing this increase, but it can safely be said that carelessness of the average householder and tenant are largely responsible. New York City is an unmetered town, and naturally in the heterogeneous population that is to be found within its borders, there are bound to be many, especially among the foreign elements, whowill not take the trouble to eliminate waste in the use of water, probably because they do not understand that it costs money to supply it.
