A problem was asked a short time ago relative to the quantity of water which a 20-horsepower pump could lift against a 100-foot head with ten pounds hydrant pressure. Not taking into account any friction, nor the area of the crank end of the piston occupied by the piston rod, I figure that the hydrant pressure aids the engine in producing a largei discharge.
