News From State of Georgia (From our Regular Correspondent) The Augusta fire department will probably adopt the twoplatoon system January 1, 1920. About eleven additional men will be required when the platoon system goes into effect. New bids are being asked for by the city of Columbus for erecting the new building for No. 1 fire station. The sum of $20,000 is available for the purpose. Captain J. C. Sullivan, of Engine Company No. 5, of the Macon fire department, organizer of the grass cutters’, street cleaners’ and textile workers’ unions in Macon, was suspended from the fire department by Chairman W. B. Chapman, of the Civil Service Commission, on a charge of insubordination. Commissioners Urquhart and Evans approved the action of Chairman Chapman.
