Meters Disclose Previous Waste of Millions of Cubic Feet a Year A previous water wastage by manufacturing concerns of the city of Middletown, Ohio, of more than four million cubic feet a year was divulged when the readings of newly installed meters on fire mains running into various factories and mills were made public recently by Superinterident of Water Works Gebhart. About eight months ago the water works superintendent drew the commission’s attention to the disparity between the water being pumped and the amount paid for. Every possible source of leakage was investigated, library, schools, drinking fountains, and Y. M. C. A. Finally the commission turned to the manufacturing plants, all of which have fire services from which no water was supposed to be used except in case of fire.
