Method of Recording the Service of Fire Hose Some time ago the Evanston, Ill., fire department put into practice a plan for keeping a record of fire hose used in the department, which should prove of considerable value as a suggested means to the same end for other cities. It is a card index system, by means of which any data concerning a certain length of hose can be obtained at any time by reference to a card bearing its number, these being kept on file in the office of the chief. Before this system was introduced no record of service performed by each length of hose could be had, and in consequence a certain portion was doing all of the work and the remainder was being rendered useless by remaining in storage.
