These New York Men Had Their Christmas at Home A paragraph in Special Order No. 221, issued by Chief John Kenlon, of the New York City Fire Department, on December 23, provided that the men of the two-platoon zone could enjoy their Christmas dinner at home: “III. Members of the Department doing duty in the two-platoon zone and on regular 24-hour leave of absence on Thursday, December 25. 1919, shall report for duty for four hours, from 12 o’clock noon until 4 o’clock P. M. on that date. This, in order to permit members on duty for 24 hours, to have their Christmas dinner at home, and who will be excused for that purpose.
