Kentucky Town’s Fire Force, 18 Men, Quits Following refusal of the city commissioners of Newport, Ky., to reconsider a resolution to dismiss six of its members, the entire personnel of the Newport fire department—18 men— quit work. Six new firemen, selected to fill the places of those who had been dismissed, assumed their duties, leaving the department 12 men short. Both Cincinnati and Covington, Mayor Herrmann said, had agreed to assist Newport in fighting fires if necessary.
