Waltham Consolidation Act Held Up Although the city council of Waltham, Mass., passed an amendment to the ordinances, providing for the consolidation of the water, street and city engineering departments into one body to be known as the Public Service Branch, it seems probable that the measure may not be carried into effect for some time. When the matter came up for final reading, it was tabled on motion of President Lyons, for further consideration. In commenting on the action, Mayor Beal said that the council did not deem it advistable to pass the consolidation ordinance unless a man had been found who could qualify for the position of Director of Public Works, who would be willing to give his services for the salary the city could afford to pay.
