Ohio Fire News (From Our Regular Correspondent.) Members of the fire department at Tiffin, Ohio, were granted a $25-a-month increase recently. The wage boost was necessary to retain men, as resignations threatened seriously to cut the personnel of the department. Effective Monday, March 15, the double platoon system was inaugurated in the Akron, Ohio, fire department. Firemen now work twenty-four hours, and are off duty the same period. Additional men have been added to the department to make the change of policy possible. Reorganization of the Canton, Ohio, fire department, preliminary to the inauguration of the double platoon system, is in progress. Chief Mesnar plans to adopt the new system not later than March 15. To adopt the double platoon system, twenty additional firemen were needed and the civil service commission has provided these, the majority of whom are already on duty.
