FIRE DEPARTMENT DOINGS The New England states Veteran Firemen’s League, held its May meeting in Salem, Mass., on the 4th. Wichita Falls, Tex., has purchased sites for three new fire stations to be built for the recently ordered apparatus. The dates fixed for the 27th annual convention of the Pacific Coast Association of Fire Chiefs at Los Angeles are September 13, 14, 15 and 16. The two-platoon system went into effect in Winona, Minn., on April 1. Eleven men were added, making the total strength of the department 34 men. The board of trustees of Scotia, N. Y., has decided on the week beginning May 1 as Clean-up Week. At that time all fire hazards will be searched out and removed. Captain Leighton of the fire department of Brockton, Mass., recently celebrated his 72nd birthday. He joined the department in 1872, and has been a permanent man for 32 years.…
