WATER WORKS NEWS Mayor O. F. Curtis of New Britain, Conn., has appointed Aldermen F. R. Gilpatric, A. M. Patonessa and H. P. Richards and Councilman H. S. Hart on the committee on water supply. The City Commission of Newark, N. J., recently rejected the two bids received on construction of the Wanaque dam, because the lower of the two was $1,400,000 in excess of the engineer’s estimate. Nashville, Tenn., has awarded the commission for preparation of plans and specifications for the new pumping machinery and improvements to pumping station and oiler plant to Chester & Fleming, engineers, Pittsburgh, Pa. The city commissioner of Everett, Wash., effected a settlement of the difficulties in the water department by giving the laborers practically what they demanded, raising their pay to $5 a day, and other employees in proportion.
