The Matter of Standardization Realizing the importance of the question, FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING sent a letter to every member of the American Water Works Association asking for their opinion as to the advisability of standardizing appliances and equipments, particularly brass goods, used in connection with water services. At this time, especially when the difficulties of production are manifestly increased, the matter of standardization in all lines has come very prominently to the fore. The association has in the past taken up this matter in connection with hose coupling threads and cast iron pipe and fittings and much has been accomplished in both of these lines, but there are other branches of water works practice which are still in a deplorable condition as regards lack of uniformity of standards One of the most glaring of these instances is in the matter of auxiliaries and fittings such as corporation cocks, etc.,…
