New England Fire Notes Pay increases were recently granted to nineteen employees of the fire alarm, headquarters, and repair shop branches of the Boston fire department. Quonchontaug, a summer resort between Watch Hill and Narragansett Pier, R. I., was visited by a disastrous fire recently which destroyed the New Bennett Hotel and five large cottages. Fire Commissioner John R. Murphy, of Boston, has requested the board of street commissioners to amend the traffic rules so that no vehicles shall be permitted to park within one hundred feet of any fire station. Lawrence E. Rief, a member of the board of fire commissioners at New Haven, Conn., has resigned and Alexander Troup has been appointed to take his place. Mr. Rief is now chief of fire protection at the plant of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The retirement of Assistant Chief Isaacs, of New Haven, became effective on June 1. Firemen’s…
