FIRE DEPARTMENT DOINGS Salem, Ohio, has adopted an ordinance for installation of the platoons in the fire department. The Permanent Firemen’s Association of Worcester will hold a convention in Worcester, Mass. August 10. Fire Commissioner Easterbrook of Brookline, Mass., has been re-appointed for three years by the selectmen. Virginia, Minn., has ordered a tractor for the fire department at $7,500 from the Seagrave Company. The tractor is to be a 4-cylinder and will be delivered in about 175 days. The two-platoon system is now in operation in 32 cities and towns of Massachusetts, with 735 more permanent men. Of this number, 473 are former soldiers appointed under the preference law. Massillon, Ohio, firemen have been granted a ten per cent wage increase. Cadet firemen will receive $125 the first six months, the second six months $130, and after a year in service will receive regular firemen’s pay. The new Howe-Ford…
