Quincy, Ill., Department Saves 3-Story Building The three story brick and frame building occupied by the N. Kohl Grocery Company in Quincy, Ill., recently was the scene of a fire that threatened its total destruction. The fire started on the third floor near the center from some cause not known and was discovered at 1 P. M. When the department arrived, under command of Chief George C. Marriott, flames had burst through the windows on both sides of the centre, but the men succeeded in confining them so that the fire did not get below the floor where it began, although it took four hours to put it entirely out. There were 50 firemen engaged, using five American-LaFrance and one AhrensFox motor pumpers. Eight 6-inch hydrants were available, 200 feet apart, and having a 50 pound pressure from a gravity water system with 6and 8-inch street mains. The building was…
