FIRE DEPARTMENT DOINGS The local fire company of Blackwood, N. J., is planning to buy the old Baptist church property, that has been unused for years, to convert into a fire hall. The wives and daughters of the Dominion Chiefs while in session at St. Thomas, Ont., organized as a “Women’s Auxiliary of the Dominion Fire Chiefs’ Association.” The purpose of the association is primarily to educate the children along lines of conservation of life and property from fire. Six men were burned to death recently at the bottom of a ninety-foot salt mine shaft on the former estate of the late Joseph Jefferson, near New Iberia, Ala., when one of them struck a match to light a cigarette, igniting gas fumes.
