FIRE DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES A new ladder truck for the fire department of Huntington, L. I., N. Y., has recently been received. The sale of deficiency bonds by the city of Youngstown, Ohio, enabled the government of that city to pay the back wages due for two months to the members of the fire department. Morris Township, N. Y., has purchased several Sterling siren fire alarms for its fire houses. A test was made of the one installed for the Hillside Hose Company recently and proved satisfactory. It is said that in spite of the fact that the eight-hour day for firemen was carried by voters at a recent election in Toledo, Ohio, many of the members of the department are very strongly in favor of the 48 hours on and 48 hours off duty.
