FIRE DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES The fire department of Oneida, Ill., recently acquired two Obenchain-Boyer motor fire trucks. The fire department in Providence, R. I., is now entirely motorized, the last piece of horse-drawn apparatus having been retired early in November. Arrangements have been completed for installing the twoplatoon system in the fire department at Winthrop, Mass., on January 1. The system of call firemen will be retained in addition to the paid force. With the addition of a new combination chemical and hose car recently received, the fire department of Arlington, Texas, now has two efficient fire-fighting apparatus, having acquired previously a triple combination car. State Fire Marshal William J. Leonard of Ohio recently stated that mortalities from fires in that state for the year ending December 1, 1920, were 324, an increase of 85 over the same period of 1919.
