FIRE DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES Lakewood, N. J., has recently acquired a new motor ladder truck for its fire department and a new company has been organized to man it. The council of Coatesville, Pa., has increased the appropriation for the three volunteer fire companies of the department to $400 each. The Petersburg, Va., fire department has recently received a new triple combination car, which cost $12,825, and which has been installed in one of the fire houses of that city. While responding to an alarm the truck from Station 5, Altoona, Pa., collided with an automobile, and both machines were badly damaged. Captain Howard of the department died as a result of the collision. A successful test was held recently of the new 85-ft. American-LaFrance motor driven aerial ladder truck that will shortly be placed in the house of Ladder 26, Boston, Mass., replacing the present horse-drawn equipment. Tests were held…
