FIRE DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES The city of Kankakee, Ill., recently acquired a new $1200 American-LaFrance pumper The city of Hereford, Tex., having suffered several disastrous fires recently, has decided to organize a volunteer fire department. Mayor Peters of Boston has refused, in spite of the permission that had been granted him by the State legislature of Massachusetts, to suspend until March 1 the operation of the law requiring the installation of automatic sprinklers in Boston tenement houses. The annual report of Chief E. J. Coyle of the Lockport, N. Y„ fire department shows a total of 116 alarms. 47 boxes and 69 still, during the year. The total loss was estimated at $55,515 Superintendent W. J. Ferris of the fire alarm system showed expenses of $253.31 for his department.
