CONEY ISLAND’S FIRE PROTECTION NEEDS Fire protection conditions at Coney Island have been made the subject of a special survey by the engineers of the National Board of Fire Underwriters. They found the water supply fairly reliable and further strengthened by special high-pressure system of fair capacity. The domestic system was stated as very weak with supply mains of inadequate capacity and the fire flow deficient in all districts even under low consumption. The engineers especially recommend the following improvements as essential: “That additional strength he provided for the supply mains so that there may be delivered to the distribution system of Coney Island the quantities required for reasonable fire protection in addition to the maximum consumption. “That the distribution system he strengthened by the early installation of such mains as are necessary to furnish fish supply as follows: a.
