WATER WORKS NEWS A contract was recently awarded for the laying of a water main from the main road of Morristown, N. J., to the Whippany School, the total bid being $1,029. The village commissioners of Ridgewood, N. J., recently passed an ordinance on final reading providing for the purchase of the plant of the Bergen Aqueduct Company for $450,000. The Massachusetts State Senate by a standing vote of 16 to 18 recently refused to order to a third reading the bill permitting boating and fishing on Lake Cochituate. Much opposition developed to this bill on the ground that the body of water in question is a reserve supply for the city of Boston and might be wanted at any time, thus endangering the health of the people for the sake of allowing privileges to a few.
