Sub Chaser for Boston Fire Boat

Sub Chaser for Boston Fire Boat S. C. 263, the navy submarine chaser which will become Boston’s latests marine fire fighter, arrived in the Hub recently and was berthed at the north end wharf at the foot of Copp’s hill where fire department officials inspected the craft. The new fireboat is one of the famous 110 ft sub chasers and saw service during the war. It was built by the George Lawley & Son Corporation at Neponset, Mass., and is equipped with three 220 horse power standard gasoline engines. Fire Commissioner John R. Murphy plans to install four powerful American-LaFrance pumping engines and it is expected that when these are in operation the boat will be able to deliver 4,000 gallons of salt water per minute.
