Office Building Damaged in Hornell The Richardson and Georgeston building in the center of the business section of Hornell, N. Y., caught fire recently at 7:55 P. M., the cause being, according to Chief J. M. Hederman, a lighted cigarette being thrown in the cloak room in the rear of the third floor. A passing policeman noticed the blaze and pulled the Gamewell box at the corner. When the department, consisting of thirty men, arrived under the command of Assistant Chief Jesse Bent, the fire was coming through the roof and extremely bad smoke conditions prevailed in the two upper floors, the building being of three stories, brick with joisted construction. The partition walls of the first story were twelve inches thick, dividing the stores, and other partitions were of wood studding.
